The Hotel Des Epoques is located in Porta Pia, a work created by Michelangelo, who also designed the Porta Pia directional axis -, the ancient residence of the Popes, then the residence of the Savoy Monarchy and currently the residence of the Italian Head of State. Two ministries are located in front of the Hotel: the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Transport. Also in front of the hotel, a little further to the left, is the British Embassy.
Behind the hotel there is also the "Macro" museum of modern and contemporary art. Porta Pia is the most important historic center of Rome, the capital of Italy.
Until 20 September 1870, Rome was part of the Vatican State; with the capture of Porta Pia by the Italian army, under the Savoy Monarchy, Rome became the capital of Italy. The Porta Pia - Quirinale directional axis was given two names: the first section Via XX Settembre, in memory of the date of the breach of Porta Pia, which occurred on the twentieth of September 1870; second stretch Via del Quirinale. Three ministries are located on the first stretch: Ministry of Economy and Finance; Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies; Ministry of Defence.
At the end of the second stretch there is the Quirinale Palace; in front of the Palazzo delle Scuderie del Quirinale, where the most important world art exhibitions of all eras take place continuously. The Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria also stands on via XX Settembre, home to Bernini's masterpieces, of which the "Ecstasy of Saint Teresa" stands out.
