Capitol

The Capitoline Hill, also known as Monte Capitolino (Mons Capitolinus) is the smallest of the hills on which Rome was founded. On the hill stands the Palazzo Senatorio, seat of the city's town hall built in 1144. The English term capitol (palace that houses the administration of a government), as well as the term capital (intended as capital city), derive from the Capitoline Hill.
